What techniques can you employ to get more eyes onto your LinkedIn profile? Search Engine
Optimization (SEO) is not just for Google anymore.   You’ve spent time creating the perfect LinkedIn profile, and take time to update it regularly. Getting more eyes on your profile, and for longer periods of time, will increase the likelihood of a visitor becoming a contact, and a contact turning into a lead. Here are some great marketing ideas to help you get found on LinkedIn.
There are a few key ways to make you easier to find on LinkedIn. Here are five of our suggestions:
“SEO” your Profile
This cannot be overlooked. Take time to research the keywords your target audience will be searching and put them in your headline and summary, where appropriate. Add them to your “skills” section.  However, don’t use keywords for keywords sake. That will be counter-productive to what you are trying to achieve.
Keywords can come from industry specific applications or certifications, or related to specific skillsets know by your target market.
2.     Increase your Activity
Get active. Share content, update your profile.
Provide collaborative comments on the content of others.
Join groups and ask insightful questions. Answer questions posed by the group thoughtfully. If you can’t answer a question and know someone who will, make the introduction. Chances are members of the group that you’re not connected to, will at the very least view your profile, and possibly want to connect.
Review the groups you are a member of, and if the group is not active and doesn’t have a lot of visitors, perhaps its best to focus your efforts on networking with a more active group. The more active the group you’re participating positively within, the more likely members of that group will seek you out to connect with you via your personal profile.
3.       Create your profile carefully and revisit it regularly
We know to update our profile for changes to us, but is your profile up to date with changes within your target audience?
Perhaps something happened in the industry that required updates. Add that and share the insight with your target audience.
Remember, you’re making it easier for people to find you on LinkedIn, so when visitors land on your profile, make sure it’s timely and relevant!
4.       Promote your LinkedIn profile on all of your marketing materials.
Include the link to your LinkedIn profile in your email signature line, on your website, on your blog, in your newsletter, anywhere where you network online.
Also include it in your contact information on your business cards or any other printed material.
As a tip – when networking in person with others, make note of whether or not they are on LinkedIn, and make a note on their card (something the two of you discussed, or information you promised to send along later) to refer to when you are back in the office and send an invitation to connect. At the time of writing, customized LinkedIn invitations were not available on mobile devices, so wait until you’re at your computer and compose a thoughtful invitation.
Customize your LinkedIn URL. It’s a lot easier to find someone using a link with their name, then a series of random characters.
And a few more great marketing ideas for good measure:
5.    Follow companies, not just individuals.
Members of that company’s group may see you’re following and visit your profile
6.    Make sure all of the content you contribute, both in groups and on your own personal profile show how passionate and engaged you are in your area of expertise.
7.    Break up your summary with subheadings – and use keywords in the subheadings.
8.    Include a professional picture in your profile.
It’s been noted that profiles with pictures are seven times more likely to be viewed, especially those that are professional and make you look approachable.
9.    Check your privacy settings. Make sure your profile is searchable.
The more you get active on LinkedIn, the easier it will be for your target market to find you. If you’re not sure if you’re on the right track, do a search and see how easy it is to find your profile. Ask a colleague to do the same.  Think of it like this, what would your target audience type in to find you, and when they do, what will they see?
And finally, (#10) one of the last great marketing ideas, never stop building your profile. As with any business application, review its effectiveness, and adjust as necessary.  Fine-tuning can only serve to bring you greater success on LinkedIn.
Those are some of our great marketing ideas.  What are yours?  We would enjoy learning from you too!
