37 Free Search Engine Optimization Classes (From an Expert)
I’m John Lincoln, one of the top SEO consultants in the industry. In this post, I give you 37 search engine optimization classes for free.
I am adding to this list of SEO courses all the time. Watch the videos below and become a pro!
How would you like to learn search engine optimization (SEO) from a pro? Better yet, how’d you like to learn about in a virtual classroom setting that you can watch in the comfort of your own home office?
Fortunately, you can do just that. Free of charge.
I’ve conducted more than two dozen SEO classes on YouTube. Much of this material comes from the same search engine optimization classes I have taught at UCSD .
They cover everything from SEO basics to new technologies like AMP . After covering SEO, I also go over other aspects of digital marketing such as email marketing and conversion rate optimization (CRO).
In each of my videos, I share with you what I’ve learned from more than 12 years of experience with online marketing. I’ll let you in on the secrets that have led our company, Ignite Visibility, to become the #1 SEO consulting company in the USA and Canada .
Search Engine Optimization Classes
1. Tutorial for Beginners
This is the first SEO class that I posted. As the title implies, it’s designed for people who are just getting started with SEO.
The video starts with an overview of SEO. It covers the various search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Amazon).
Then, I cover the difference between organic and paid listings in Google.
Following that, I go over the difference between onsite and offsite optimization. That includes explaining how hyperlinks work for search.
I also describe URLs, and various tags that help with SEO, including the title, H1, and H2 tags.
Next, I go into website architecture. That part includes a segment on internal linking and blocking pages.
Finally, I cover a broad overview of various concepts related to SEO, including social signals, content marketing, and SSL. This is one of the more beginner search engine optimization classes in the lineup, so skip it if you are advanced.
2. Search Engine Optimization Class 13 Things You Need to Know for SEO in 2017!
The next in my series of classes, I cover important SEO topics to keep in mind for 2017. They include:

Artificial intelligence and how it’s used to rank content
Why home devices will be more important to the future of SEO
Why it’s important to invest in social media
The importance of using SSL (the HTTPS protocol) in SEO
Why Amazon is relevant to SEO and how to rank well in the Amazon search engine
Why it’s important to understand voice search
The importance of implementing a mobile-friendly website
The overlooked subject of international SEO
The importance of longform content
Why a positive user experience and great design are essential to great SEO
3. SEO Class – How to Diagnose a Drop in Website Traffic Fast
Have you ever noticed your website traffic inexplicably drop off? In this search engine optimization class , I go over how you can determine the cause of the drop.
The good news is that you might not have experienced a drop at all. It could just be a bug in Google Analytics or the Search Console. Even Google doesn’t write flawless software 100% of the time.
However, the drop in traffic could be due to a Google penalty. I explain how you can check for that.
Also, there’s a possibility that your rank dropped due to a change in Google’s algorithm . In that case, the problem is immediately out of your control. You’ll have to do some further research to determine what went wrong.
I also go over several other ways that you can determine what went wrong with your traffic stats.
4. How to Create a Persona For SEO
The next in my series of search engine optimization classes is all about personas.
What’s a persona? It’s a representation of your ideal customer. For example: An accountant who’s struggling with all the problems associated with current software-as-a-service products might be a persona for your business if you’re offering accounting software as a service.
That’s a bit of a simplification, of course. Personas typically include demographic, consumer behavior, and lifestyle information. Fortunately, much of that data is readily available online and I explain how you can get access to it.
I also explain the importance of creating goals before you create online personas .
5. What is a 404 Error: Search Engine Optimization Class
404 errors are a common issue in SEO. In this video, you will learn all about 404 errors and how to deal with them.

14. Advanced Search Engine Optimization Training: How to Rank #0 (Above #1)
The next video that will put you on your way to SEO training certification is my class on how to rank #0.
Yes, there is a rank #0. And it’s better than rank #1.
Rank #0 is the featured snippet that appears for some search terms at the top of the search results. It stands out because Google features not only the link and description but a bit of the content as well.
Fortunately, it’s possible to optimize your site to reach rank #0 . Watch the search engine optimization class to learn some tips.
15. Mobile SEO Course: Google Mobile-First Update Is Coming Soon (Are You Ready?)
The next in my series of search engine optimization classes is all about the Google mobile-first update .
If you’re unfamiliar with the mobile-first update , it’s a software update that Google will one day roll out to crawl sites as a mobile agent. That means Google will “see” your site through the eyes of a mobile device, such as a smartphone.
That’s important because if your site is unfriendly to a mobile audience, then it’s almost certainly going to lose rank after the mobile-first update goes live.
As of now, Google keeps pushing back on the date of the roll-out. There’s no doubt, though, that it will eventually go into production.
16. SEO Training Webinar: Planning for SEO Success in 2017
Next in my Google SEO training series is a recording of a webinar that included myself and Alan Bush, the Director of Strategy at Ignite Visibility.
Alan and I go over a number of tips for SEO success in 2017 . The subjects covered include:
Accelerated Mobile Pages
17. Advanced SEO Classes: SEO Site Structure, How to Layout a Foundation
Site structure might seem like a boring concept, but it’s important to SEO.
For example: how do you organize and separate your service pages, information pages, location pages, and blog pages?
You wouldn’t build a house without a sound foundation, right? A website’s structure effectively acts as its foundation.
In the video, I explain why it’s important to visualize your site as a series of buckets and how that helps for CRO. I also go over how site structure is important to on-site SEO.
18. Ranking in Bing vs. Google for SEO
Google isn’t the only search engine in town. That’s why I offer free SEO training material on how to rank for both Bing and Google.
Although you will get most of your SEO traffic from Google, you won’t get it all from Google. If you fail to ignore SEO for Bing, you’re basically throwing away market share.
Your competitors might pick up that market share.
In the video, I go over the history of Bing and how it’s evolved over the years. I also explain the relationship between Bing and Google.
Finally, I cover both the similarities and differences between Google and Bing from an SEO perspective. Of course, all along the way I offer practical advice about how you can improve your site to rank for both search engines.
19. Title Tags for SEO, the Perfect Formula
In the next of my search engine optimization classes, I explain the importance of title tags and how you can optimize them to give your site a boost in the SERPs.
As I say in the video: “If you don’t know how to properly structure a title tag, you’re never going to get ranked.”
Title tags stand out from the content because they’re the part the people see first in the search results.
Also, titles are only in the code of your site. You don’t include them in the content itself.
In the video, I explain why not every single title tag needs to optimize for search. Some titles do better as “clickbait” that people click on from social media sites.
Of course, I also go over the importance of keyword optimization in title tags .
20. Meta Descriptions for SEO, How to Maximize Clicks
Title tags aren’t the only important tags when it comes to onsite SEO. You also need to optimize meta descriptions as well.
In case you’re new to SEO, meta descriptions are meta tags that include a description attribute. The value of that description attribute is what Google includes in the search results just below the title.
The description is important because it gives people an understanding of the contents of the page itself. It elaborates on the title.
In this video, I cover the basics of meta descriptions and how to optimize them so you can improve your CTR.
21. Image SEO, Learn to Optimize Your Website Images Now!
In my next video course, I cover image optimization .
Unfortunately, image optimization is often overlooked by many webmasters. It’s not only important for SEO, but also for page speed (which, ultimately, not only affects user experience but SEO as well).
Basically, when Google crawls a page and finds images that are optimized for specific keywords, Google will rank the page higher for that keyword.
Keep in mind, there’s also a Google Image Search. That means images from your site might appear at the top of the image search results. Again, though, that’s only going to happen if the images are properly optimized .
22. Sitemaps for SEO, How to Get Full Indexing Potential!
In this video SEO course, I cover the basics about sitemaps .
If you’re not familiar with sitemaps, you can think of them as digital layouts of your entire website (or parts of your website) that make it easy for search engines to find content. Usually, they’re in XML format.
In the class, I go over the different types of sitemaps (including non-XML varieties) and offer some tips about SEO with sitemaps .
23. Category Optimization and SEO, Get Your Categories Ranking!
In my next class, I explain category optimization . That’s especially important if you’re running an ecommerce site or large news site.
Typically, category optimization involves assigning 3-5 keywords to each category and using them throughout the categories.
I go over how to use the keywords in your category layout page. That includes how to optimize the H1 tag, the H2 tag, and the content itself.
I also explain how to optimize images that are associated with categories. That’s why this is a good course to watch alongside my class on image optimization.
24. Local SEO, Learn Real Local SEO Now From Ignite Visibility
In this video, I cover Local SEO . This is one of my favorite search engine optimization classes. I think you will enjoy it.
If you’re unfamiliar with Local SEO, it’s an optimization technique that enables your site to rank well when people local to your business search for terms related to your niche. It’s especially important if you’re running a brick-and-mortar business (like a restaurant or gift shop) and want people in your community to find it with the help of a search engine.
You’re going to lose a lot of market share to competitors if you don’t practice good Local SEO . That’s why I made this video.
Although Google My Business (GMB) is an important part of Local SEO, I also go over optimizing locally for Bing as well.
25. SEO Reporting, the Best Reports for Search Engine Optimization
You might have the best SEO strategy in the world, but how will you know without analytics?
In this class I go over the best reports for SEO . Your boss will be happy you took this free SEO training.
As the course name implies, I go over the online reports (and reporting periods) that you should use to evaluate the effectiveness of your SEO strategy .
I also cover which tools are best for different types of reports.
Although the course is geared towards SEO professionals who are trying to please a client or boss, you can also apply what I teach if you’re running a small business and would like to do your own SEO.
26. Search Engine Optimization Classes: Competitive Backlink Analysis for SEO
In this free market, we all have competitors. That’s why it’s a great idea to keep tabs on those competitors with backlink analysis .
Competitor backlink analysis is important for two reasons. First, you can determine where you competitors are getting their backlinks from and imitate their strategy. Second, you can get an idea about why they might be outranking you in the search results.
In this class, I go over the basics of backlink analysis . That includes finding your competitors, using tools to evaluate their backlinks, and what to look for in the backlink report.
Finally, I go over what to do when you get what you want.
27. Mobile SEO, Learn Mobile Search Engine Optimization Now
The Information Age is now the Mobile Age. If you don’t adapt your site to a mobile audience, you’ll find yourself at a serious competitive disadvantage.
In this class, I go over the importance of mobile optimization . I also offer some tips on mobile SEO that will help your site rank well in the mobile SERPs.
Additionally, I explain the different types of content that appear on mobile devices and how each type of content relates to SEO.
28. Advanced SEO Class: Get Into Google News, Learn Google News SEO Now
How would you like to get your site into the Google News search results ? You can do that with some optimization techniques.
Landing in Google News is a great way add the appearance of authority to your site. That’s because people tend to trust Google News more than the content of the publishers who appear in the search results.
In this class, I explain Google News and show you how you can optimize your site so that it can appear in the Google News search results.
29. International SEO Class (Multilingual and Multi-Regional SEO)
It’s a global economy. If you want to expand your market share without adding to your product line or offering new services, consider going international .
Of course, once you go international, you’re going to need to practice international SEO. That’s how you’ll promote your brand in regional search engines.
In this class, I explain the concept of international SEO and offer tips about how you can rank in different countries.
30. Transfer Website to HTTPS for SEO
As we’ve seen, you can improve your rank by transferring your website from HTTP to HTTPS . That is why this is one of the most popular search engine optimization classes.
If you’re unfamiliar with those acronyms, they refer to protocols that people use to access a website. If you look at your URL bar right now, you’ll probably see “http” or “https” at the beginning of the URL.
HTTPS is the secure version of HTTP. It’s a protocol that not only validates the identity of the site that people access, but also encrypts the communications between the site and the browser.
In this video, I cover the basics of HTTPS and how you can implement it on your own website.
31. Search Engine Optimization in 2017
Learn the biggest items for SEO in 2017 in this video. It covers all the latest tricks, tips and strategies.
32. AMP Project SEO, Get Your Website AMP Ready Now!
This class goes into extensive detail about Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP).
If you don’t know about AMP, it’s a way to load web pages very quickly on a mobile platform. Basically, it’s a stripped-down version of a website page.
When it comes to mobile search results, you’ll find that Google loves speed. It’s also abundantly clear that Google loves AMP.
Both of those are great reasons why should add AMP support to your website .
In this class, I go over the basics of AMP and explain how you can implement it on your site.

In this audio webinar, I made with Alan Bush, I cover the most important SEO concepts for 2016 .
Although the webinar was conducted more than a year ago, it still offers valuable insight on key SEO concepts that are still relevant today.
It’s a great idea to listen to this audio before you watch my video about important SEO concepts for 2017.
35. Conversion Rate Optimization, Top Strategies From John Lincoln
As I pointed out above, I don’t just cover SEO in my video classes. In this course, I cover conversion rate optimization .
If you’re unfamiliar with the expression, conversion rate optimization is about how to get website visitors to “convert” or take an action that you want them to take (such as clicking a button, placing an order or signing up for an email list).
In this class, I cover the basics about CRO , including color schemes, page templates, mobile optimization, and web page elements.
36. Email Marketing, Grow a List, Segmentation, Automation!
My next non-SEO video is about email marketing .
Of course, you can’t do any email marketing without an email distribution list. That’s why I cover the basics about how to create and grow your own email list.
