???? Are you looking to grow your influence in your industry?
???? Would you like to learn the exact tactics we’ve executed to build my influence?
???? In this article & video I’ll share 9 tactics we’ve executed to successfully grow my influence in the Digital Marketing industry (which has been the #1 growth catalyst for KPS).
Think of influence as persuasion power.
Why does Kim Kardashian get paid $500,000 for an Instagram post?
Because when she tells her 102 million Instagram followers to do something, they do it.
When you ask your audience to buy your new products or sign up to your services, how many of them will do it?
As your influence grows, so does the amount of people who will do what you want them to. (Click to Tweet)
If you really want to be the top of your game, you need to invest time, energy and resources in learning and improving your craft every single day.
How much time per day/week/month are you investing in personal development?
Audit yourself right now and work it out. Self-awareness plays such a big part in knowing what ‘your craft’ should be and where you need to double down on improving your skills. Gary nails it in this video.
Schedule time in your calendar to plan how and when you will invest in learning and improving your craft (this could be courses, consuming educational videos, going to events, reading articles etc).
It’s very noisy on social media. How can you get people to keep coming back to consume your content?
???? You make it worth their while.
???? What information could you give them that others in your industry hold back for paying clients?
???? What information do the most successful people in your industry provide for their customers?
???? What burning questions could you answer to make your potential customers keep coming back for more?
Write down the 10 most valuable pieces of information you have that will benefit your audience.
Plan 10 pieces of content you can create to communicate these 10 things (videos, blogs, audio, text-based posts etc).
Writing for credible industry publications is a sure-fire way to fast-track the growth of your influence.
Here’s how you do it;
1. Get good at writing (consume educational content, practice, get feedback, improve, repeat).
6. Learn from your wins & losses, evolve the process.
Start with your first small step. This will vary depending on where you are with your writing. Just starting? Set up your blog. Experienced writer? Look for new guest posting opportunities in a top end publication like Forbes.
You also need to follow and learn from Josh Steimle & Aaron Orrendorf. I’ve learnt most things I know in this area from them.
We’re all fighting for the attention of our potential customers online. How about if you could get a captivated audience of 50, 100, heck 1000+ of them in one room for 40 minutes?
No, I’m not talking about turning into one of those annoying ‘buy my stuff’ people who jump on a stage and try and sell a ‘one-time offer’ blah, blah blah…
How about you share your most valuable knowledge on stage? Teach your audience how to do something. Entertain them. Show them you know your stuff.
Even if you don’t think speaking is your cup of tea, you still need to read this article I wrote which shows you how to become a speaker.
This is one of the fastest ways to become more influential in your industry.
That’s the traditional word (which I kinda hate) for building relationships.
It’s a must if you want to grow your industry influence, but, how do you ‘network’ effectively?
I’ve made every mistake in the book, the biggest tip I could give you is to go networking with the mentality that you are out to make friends and not sell.
Read this article on how not to act when networking. It doesn’t just show you what not to do, it walks you through how to network effectively. If you fancy a laugh, watch the video below.
Before anyone makes a decision to purchase your products or services, they want to make sure you’re the right fit for them (price, customer service, culture, ethics, support, quality, credibility etc.)
How do you win the right customers over? You show them that you’re the right fit by storytelling through content. Humans love stories because they trigger emotion. Start triggering your ideal customer’s emotions.
Do you run a kitchen? Show your audience the chef in action on Instagram stories. Are you a personal trainer? Create a vlog on YouTube showing the ways you support your customers.
Do you make natural fragrances and skincare like Haeckels in Margate (the home of KPS)? Make a video for your website which tells the story of why you started. I love the example below!
The first step you need to take is to put together your core story (a timeline of where you started, your lowest to highest moments and where you are now) in addition to your ‘every day story’ (how you’d like to be perceived by your ideal customers on a daily basis).
1. Think of your lowest moment.
2. Think of your highest moment.
3. Write down the 5 – 10 steps you took to get from low to high.
There’s the basic framework to your core story!
1. Write down 10 things you’d like your ideal customers to know you for i.e. your values (customer service, quality products, friendly staff, being ethical etc).
2. Write down 3 pieces of content you could create for each of the 10 values to communicate how well they represent you.
e.g. One of Innocent Smoothie’s values is to be responsible. Their Instagram posts communicate this by showing their audience how to up-cycle their bottles in fun and creative ways.
The way you build an influence over others is to show you genuinely care about them. There’s no better way to do this than to invest time in helping them when there is no clear short-term gain for you.
Bonus: Doing this makes you a good human too.
Go out of your way to help others. Find people asking questions on social media that you can answer. Share the best piece of content you’ve seen on social media that day tagging the person who created it with a nice comment, create a detailed blog showing your audience how to overcome a question someone emailed you.
With every decision you make, ask yourself how will this benefit you in the long term?
If you do nothing after going to a seminar, watching a webinar, consuming an educational video, reading this article, then it’s been kinda pointless…
If you want some motivation to take action, stick your headphones in, turn the volume up and watch the video below.
Make it a habit to take action. Start now, what action are you taking after reading this? Let me know in the comments.
