Guide to Using Facebook For Email Marketing

It’s imperative that one uses online marketing for their business. Whether you have a physical location or you’re completely virtual the success of your business maybe determined by your online marketing efforts. And specifically, email marketing is one of the more successful ways of marketing via online.

In this article we’ll talk about why your business needs to use email marketing and the ways you can use social media to boost your email subscription numbers..

You’re contacting your customers and potential customers directly. That’s the main benefit of email marketing. These are people that have previously purchased from you or have subscribed to your newsletter. They’ve raised their hands and said please contact me with information about your products and services.

Build loyalty, trust and brand awareness effectively with email. Emails can be used to educate people about your industry news, service or product, event or function, charity efforts or send offers, coupons and discounts. Sending regular emails on a consistent basis will let your customers know you’re reliable and engaged.

Track your return on investment and find the cost of acquiring a new customer via email. Many email marketing services integrate with shopping carts and ecommerce software and most email services allow Google analytics tracking. Some services have quite sophisticated tracking abilities. You can pull reports for each newsletter to see your open rate and click through rate. From there you can track where your email reader goes in your website.

Sending emails is the easy part, getting newsletter subscribers can be the challenging part. The traditional way to get subscribers is to put a sign-up form on your website or blog. Bur have you ever thought of using social media to expand your newsletter email list? With over 1 billion users Facebook is ripe for the picking.

It’s been debated if social media marketing is replacing email marketing. 2015 has been named the year of email marketing. I don’t think it should be an either or situation. I think social media marketing and email marketing can complement each other and even create a synergy for optimum results for both.

Add a email subscription form to your Facebook page. Leading email marketing providers such as MailChimp allow you to add a tab with a subscription form so that your fans can easily subscribe to your email list. This subscription tab will integrate directly with your email marketing system and will send all your subscribers directly to your list.

Update … Facebook just gave business pages a Call To Action button. Use the call to action button to push email subscriptions. In the link to website area link to your email subscription form.

Offer a “pink-spoon”. Remember the little pink spoons you got from Baskin-Robins when you got a test taste of ice cream? Well this would be a virtual taste of your product or services. We see them all the time on websites, “Get your FREE guide to choosing the right couch for your home”, “Download a chapter of my new book” or something similar. Just like on a website, if you have an enticing give-away or “pink-spoon” you’re more likely to get new subscribers.

Share your newsletter directly with Facebook and Twitter. Many mail marketing platforms like MailChimp allow you to do this. Fans can click on your personalized image card to check out your newsletter. If your fans like what they see, they’re likely to subscribe right there on your page.

Add social sharing buttons to your email. Your subscribers may want to share the content on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, GooglePlus or reddit. If your fans are interested enough in your content to share with their friends it’s likely that some of their friends and followers will be interested in the content also. Which will increase your newsletter audience and may lead to more subscriptions.

Facebook’s reach is consistently declining. So you never know if your fans saw your posts. With email you can see how many people open your newsletters and click on your links. (This is where you can really measure your ROI.)

You own your email list. No one can ever take it away from you. But Facebook isn’t like a website, you don’t own the platform and are subject to their whim and fancy.

It’s getting harder to be seen on Facebook without buying ad. I’ll grant that Facebook has one of the most effective ad platforms around and their ads are very reasonably priced. But emailing your list directly allows you to control the communication with your subscribers and a much higher percentage of readers will open your emails than will see your posts.

By getting your social media follower and fans to subscribe for your newsletter you will be in a much better position to get eyes on your products and services and therefore increase your revenues.
